Traffic Enforcement

The Officers of the Dover Police Department pride themselves on effectively and efficiently enforcing the traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Each officer routinely engages in traffic enforcement and education as a part of their daily activities.

Traffic enforcement and education is a very valuable facet of the overall safety of the town. It is hoped that between special traffic enforcement details, routine traffic law enforcement, and public education, we can achieve a safer community for motorists using the roadways within the town, as well as the general public.

The Dover Police participate in many state traffic safety programs in conjunction with the Governor’s Highway Safety Bureau and the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. These programs include Road RespectClick It or Ticket, and Drunk Driving: Over the Limit, Under Arrest.

State and national traffic safety officials request participation in these programs on a yearly basis. These programs include the operation of roadway safety checkpoints, distribution of informative literature, and intensive patrol techniques.

In addition to regular traffic enforcement, the Dover Police Department utilizes trained and skilled officers to perform other traffic related tasks such as Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement and Accident Reconstruction.
