Tubwreck Road Vegetation Fire

For immediate release:

DOVER, MA – On Thursday, March 31, 2016, the Dover Police and Fire Departments responded to a vegetation fire in the woods near the intersection of Abbott Road and Tubwreck Road. Upon arrival, crews found a one acre fire in the low brush between two houses, which was extending to a shed. Firefighters worked quickly to stop the spread of the fire and completely extinguished the involved area. They were assisted on scene by the Westwood Fire Department and the Medfield Fire Department. Additionally, the Sherborn Fire Department provided station coverage for the Town and responded to another fire department call that came in.

Officer Rob Clouse investigated the cause with Dover Fire Chief Jay Hughes, Westwood Fire Chief William Scoble, and Medfield Fire Chief William Kingsbury. The investigation showed that the insulation had been compromised on an electric service utility line through long term wear against a nearby tree. The day’s heavy winds caused the exposed line to keep rubbing against a tree which created sparks falling to the ground. Eversource Electric responded and added a protective sleeve to the line.

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
