Blizzard Crash Leads to Criminal Charges

For immediate release:

DOVER, MA – During the blizzard on Friday, Feb, 8, at approximately 11:42 p.m., the Dover Police Department responded to a single vehicle crash on Centre Street by the bridge to Central Ave, Needham. On arrival, responding officers located a black Nissan sedan off the road and down an embankment at the curve just prior to entering the bridge. The vehicle was occupied by five individuals who were not injured and refused medical evaluation.

A preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle while traveling northbound, lost control and left the roadway off the southbound lane just prior to the bridge. It then collided with a guard rail and continued down an embankment where it came to final rest. Earlier that day, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick issued Executive Order 543 prohibiting motorists who serve no essential public safety purpose for the storm to stay off the roadways after 4 p.m. due to the blizzard conditions. The operator of the vehicle will be summonsed to appear in Dedham District court for the charges of negligent operator of a motor vehicle, operating in violation of Executive Order 543 and speed greater than reasonable.
