Centre Street Bridge To Be Closed for Repairs Beginning Monday, November 9, 2015

Update: This construction project completed on Monday, November 16, 2015.

For immediate release:

DOVER, MA – Motorists who use the bridge over the Charles River that connects Centre Street, Dover, to Central Ave, Needham, will experience a detour starting Monday, November 9, 2015, that will last for approximately ten days.

As the result of damage from a prior motor vehicle crash on the Dover side of the bridge, the scope of the work requires that both travel lanes be shut down, making the bridge impassable. Detours will be in place and clearly marked for traffic in both directions. Sign boards have already been put in place to give advance notice to motorists, minimize inconvenience, and reduce confusion when construction begins. Officers from the Dover and Needham Police Departments will be on scene during the rush hours to assist with traffic and safety.

On the Dover side: northbound traffic will be redirected from Centre Street onto Claybrook Road, to Main Street, to Dover Road, and back to Central Ave.

On the Needham side: southbound traffic will be diverted from Central Ave onto Charles River Road, to South Street, to Dedham St, and back to Centre Street.

While these roads do all have the same 30 MPH speed limit, it is expected that traffic will be severely impacted, especially during the morning and evening commutes. We advise motorists to seek alternate routes, and to avoid the area altogether, if possible.

A Map of the detour is available here.
