DPD Investigates Two Bicyclists Struck By Vehicle

For immediate release:

DOVER, MA – On Thursday, June 21, 2012, the Dover Police Department Emergency Communications Center received multiple E911 calls at 12:37 pm reporting a crash involving a motor vehicle and bicyclist in the area of 170 Dedham St.

Officers from the Patrol Division of the Dover Police Department and EMTs with the Ambulance from the Dover Fire Department responded.

When officers arrived on scene, they discovered a motor vehicle stopped in the westbound lane, and two bicycles and two riders on the ground injured. They assisted the cyclists while Paramedics from the Needham Fire Department and a medical helicopter from Boston Medflight were dispatched.

One cyclist, a 39 year old male from Walpole, was transported by the Dover Ambulance to Beth Israel Needham Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other cyclist, a 63 year old male from Boston, was transported by the Needham ambulance to the landing zone, Baggs Field in Dover, transferred to Medflight, and then flown to Beth Israel Boston Hospital with serious injuries.

Officers were assisted on scene by the Office of the Norfolk County District Attorney and Crash Reconstruction Teams from the Dover and Wellesley Police Departments. A preliminary investigation shows the motor vehicle was travelling westbound on Dedham St when it came behind and struck two bicyclists also travelling westbound.

The operator of the motor vehicle, DAGNI ROMERO-CARVAJAL, 64, of Framingham, was not injured. Presently, she is being charged with Operating a motor vehicle to Endanger. The incident remains under investigation.
